维基百科教育版DVD发布
SOS Children's
Villages发布了2008/9版维基百科教育精选DVD——免费的、每篇文章都亲手核查的、非商业性维基百科英文文章集锦，它符合英国的国家课程标准，适用于英语世界。
DVD共包含5502篇文章、33716幅照片、1980万文字，容量3.5GB。DVD将由SOS组织制作用于发展中国家的学校，2007年的版本获得了巨大的成功，它在4个国家的学校中分发，被墙中洞（Hole
in the Wall）教育项目使用。DVD镜像的下载将在10月23日通过BT发布。
This is the UK charity homepage of SOS Children, the
world's largest orphan and abandoned children's
charity. Child
sponsors and donors worldwide provide a new family and home for
more than 70,000 children in 473 unique Children's
Villages in 123 countries. Our supporters also help a
million children and their families through SOS community outreach
programmes.
Our strategic goal for the next eight years is to help a million
child sponsors give a million children a family life. Of these, one
hundred thousand will be given a new family and home in an SOS
Children's Village and nine hundred thousand will be able to grow
up within their own (or extended) family with our support.
SOS Children... giving children a family for life.
Our
sponsors and donors help children whose parents are not there
for them. They may be AIDS orphans, street children, child soldiers
or children orphaned by war, poverty or natural disasters. We give
these children a mother and a family in a home within an SOS
Children's Village. Donations pay to build the Villages and run
them until child sponsors cover the running costs. Where family
life is at risk (for example where parents in Africa have AIDS), we
run programmes to help strengthen them and keep them together.
